A young man went to a doctor for a check-up.
The doctor asked: “How are you doing?”
Man: “Very well, doctor. I am healthy for 23 hours and 36 minutes in a day.”
Doctor: “Sorry, I didn’t quite understand…”
Man: “I seem to have some sort of an infection. I cough out blood for almost 1 minute every hour. Besides these 24 minutes of coughing every day, I am perfectly healthy.”
The “happiness” we experience from worldly pursuits is similar to this young man’s idea of health – the temporary absence of suffering.
Suffering is only a symptom.
