The Soul’s Vital Air

Let us try two different methods of breathing:

  1. Inhale, and hold your breath. Keep holding it. Exhale only when you feel completely suffocated and on the verge of collapsing. Repeat.
  1. Inhale and exhale naturally, effortlessly.

Which method felt easier and more sustainable in the long run?

Smaran (remembering the Higher) is to the soul what breathing is to the body. One option is to use smaran only when you feel suffocated by your life’s circumstances. Or you could make it a natural process, as effortless as breathing.

The choice is yours.

दुःख में सुमिरन सब करे, सुख में करे न कोय।

जो सुख में सुमिरन करे, दुःख काहे को होय ॥
